Read this story from Red Herring. And they wonder why people still download music… hahaha.
RIAA’s Sour Notes
Is the Recording Industry Association of America fair in going after satellite radio outlets XM and Sirius? Both XM and Sirius have announced MP3 products that would allow their subscribers to download songs they have heard on the air to their MP3 players for future playback. The RIAA sees the downloading of songs from satellite radio play lists as a clear violation of the industry’s agreement with XM and Sirius and expects to be paid for the use of its content. But how is the downloading of songs from the radio’s play list different than taping of songs off the radio? Or perhaps loading one’s MP3 player with songs from one’s own CD collection? We tried to reach the RIAA for the second day in a row to check out the story, but none of the three media reps have had time to return our calls.
