Lunchtime Quickie

I’m at lunch sitting outside of Starbucks so I can use my T-Mobile HotSpot subscription.  I’ve spent a majority of my hour updating my posts with categories and also fixing the YouTube issues.  It is taking a while but will be worth it.

Anyway, today has been a typical Monday with not much going on at the office.  I’m waiting to hear back on the training documentation that I turned in on Friday.  I really would like to get feedback from the EDI Coordinator before I turn it in to be used in the training classes.  Nothing so far, but maybe she’s busy?

I really should be getting back.  I have a few things I need to finish up before I can leave today.  Hopefully I can peace out a bit early.  I want to get my haircut and getting in around 5pm usually means there will be no wait.  Fingers crossed!

New Location

Ok, so with the help of Mike, I have now moved to my own domain.  LiveJournal just wasn’t doing it for me anymore.  Many changes to come to this site (the first being the theme) in the very near future.  I have to go through my posts and categorize them, which will take some time.  Hopefully I can get some done during my lunch break tomorrow while I sit outside of Starbucks.

New Design

So, I was kind of bored and thought, heck, I need to redesign this site. I am kind of disappointed that LiveJournal doesn’t offer more options when it comes to their free accounts. I am not sure if I will stay here or if I will move to my own personal site so I have more control.Thoughts on the redesign? How about thoughts on moving to a new location? All are welcome!

The Lyric Project

I bought my cousin’s old iPod from him today. I have a MSFT Zune but I wanted something that I could use at work that would allow me to rate my music in iTunes. This iPod is the answer to that need. I will still keep my Zune because I love it but I’m going to use this iPod for the next month or so to get some of this music rated in my iTunes. One nifty feature of the 5th generation iPod is the ability to display lyrics for the song you are listening to. This is a nice feature. Problem is, you have to cut and paste these lyrics into each song in iTunes. Not so bad if I only had about 100 or so songs. I have over 4000 tracks so this whole cut and paste thing isn’t going to work so much. I have found a solution to this problem though. It’s called EvilLyrics and it automatically updates the lyrics in iTunes once it finds them for the song you are listening to. It works 95% of the time and I love it. Anyway, today I have been listening to a lot of music in iTunes trying to get these lyrics updated. Of course, getting lyrics for every song is probably not feasible and would easily take months to complete, but today was a small step in the right direction.

Comment Obsession

I have a small obsession with reading comments. This obession is not with reading comments on blogs, as you might expect. I love reading comments on news stories. In particluar, I really love reading the comments by readers of stories on AZ Central, which is the official website of the Arizona Republic.

First of all, let me mention an annoyance I have with the AZ Central site. Because of the insane comments that were being posted on Immigration stories and others of that nature, they have started disabling comments on any story that may be controversial. What does that accomplish? Nothing. People just post comments about these “hot” issues on other articles. Kind of amusing. This is one reason why I get joy out of reading these comments. Let’s call this reason #1.

Reason #2: People start flame wars with one another. Awesome.

Reason #3: Posts from people who deem themselves “experts*” on a subject. (*know it alls)

Reason #4: Someone who just responds to multiple people’s comments with their posts. See the example below. This person responds to multiple people’s comments and in an amusing way. Love it! Read the story this is in reference to here.

Some Random Things

I’ve found myself spending lots of time reading various news stories lately. I mean, for all sorts of outlets. Everything from the International Herald Tribune to Breitbart to the Drudge Report. It seems that I’m just hungry for information and these sites are just a few that I am finding myself visiting on a daily basis. I love my Google Reader but I’ve been reluctant to add some of these sites to it. I have way too many subscriptions (current unread article count – 114) now that I can hardly keep up with. I think it’s a bit more efficient if I just keep some of these sites out of Reader.

On another subject, the new American Gladiators show kicks ass. It’s way corney but so good. I recommend you give it a shot. It’ll being back fond memories of your childhood if nothing else.

Sadly, my YouTube addiction is coming back with a vengance. I guess it’s not a bad thing but it sure does eat up a lot of free time!!

These past few weeks have been some of the best weeks ever. I’m hoping that this continues for a very long time. Everything is going so well… I love it. I hope everyone’s 2008 is going well and that it will continue on into the rest of this year.

Oh, and it appears that I’m doing better at this posting thing. Maybe it’s the fact that I take time out of my day (lunch break) to go to the closest Starbucks and sign on to the net? Maybe I can make this a daily (or almost daily) ritual? Wouldn’t that be nice?

I’m On This

I’m really loving this guy. Sometimes I wish I was in the LA area so I could see some of these people live without having to wait for them to venture to Phx.
