U.S. Constitution – Two Excerpts

Article IV: Section 2 – The citizens of each state shall be entitled to all privileges and immunities of citizens in the several states.

Amendment XIV: Section 1 – All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the state wherein they reside. No state shall make or enforce any law which shall abridge the privileges or immunities of citizens of the United States; nor shall any state deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws

The recent events in California have increased donations to both sides of the gay marriage issue according to this story in the San Jose Mercury News.  When the group for amending the CA constitution receives its largest contribution from the Knights of Columbus , how can anyone not believe that their motives have a religious foundation?  The HRC has pledged $500,000 to help defeat the ballot initiative in November.  What happens in California this November will have lasting effects on the rest of this country.  Let’s hope the people of California will reject the ban.

  • Not sure what your point is here. If you are trying to say that our government owes no social services to families that are undocumented, I challenge you to imagine living in a city that is saturated with immigrants–documented and undocumented.

    When you deny services to undocumented individuals, you’re not only making their lives more difficult. You are affecting the entire population.

    How would you, a citizen, feel when the crime rate in your neighborhood rises because we started denying education and recreational programs for the undocumented youth there?

    How would you, a citizen, react to an epidemic of a communicable disease in your city because we denied health care services to a large portion of your neighbors?

    I wish that solving some of our countries problems was that easy, Dan…but denying services is entirely too simplistic and not thought out.

  • It appears that WordPress hates me lately? I wrote this and published this last night and it appears that the entire post was not saved. Anyway, the post has been updated. I can see how this would have been a very ambiguous post without my last paragraph.
