Yesterday’s Stock Market

Below is an image that shows what yesterday’s stock market did to my investments vs. how they rebounded today.  Interesting that I’ve gained back a lot of what I lost on Monday.

$1,200,000,000,000

That’s how much the NYSE lost today in equity value.  Jesus.

Caffeine Update

Here’s my updated chart for Caffeine intake over the weekend.  Not too bad!

TiVo Crisis – Partially My Fault

Last week, Survivor began on CBS.  Thursday is a very busy TV day for me.  I thought I had checked my “To Do” list on TiVo earlier in the week to make sure that all my shows, at least the ones most important to me, were going to be recorded.  I didn’t do a very good job.  I turned on my TV and was met with my TiVo recording “Kitchen Nightmares” and “Ugly Betty” vs. what I had expected it to be recording.  I partially blame myself for this mistake because I didn’t do a good job at looking at my “To Do” list but I also place blame on TiVo.  How hard would it be for the TiVo software to inform you in some sort of way when an item that is higher on your season pass list isn’t going to be recorded because of a conflict with an item lower in your season pass list?

This occurred this week because of Survivor being 2 hours long which caused it to conflict with my 8pm recordings.  TiVo knew it wasn’t going to be able to record the whole thing, so why couldn’t it have told me??  It can’t be that hard, can it?  If I was informed about this problem, I would have been able to get the whole show recorded on my other DVR.  Oh well, maybe TiVo will address this soon in a software update.  Fingers crossed.

Caffeine Intake

Mike posted a blog about how he was going to measure his caffeine intake.  I decided that I would track mine as well.  Here’s my chart below.  It’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be.  Yay!

What!?

Amazon.com – Delivery Times

Something interesting to note about Amazon.com and their delivery times.  Here is my experience.

If you order free shipping, Amazon.com states that you will receive your package in seven to ten days.  Not too bad.  If you order a more expensive shipping service, you’ll get your order more quickly.  I’ve found that what Amazon.com really does is just slow down the processing time for those “budget” shipping orders or, at least, throws them into the back of the queue.  I have two examples where I’ve ordered budget shipping and received my order in two days from ordering and, like my most recent purchase, ten days from ordering.  What’s interesting to note from the first order is that I received my package before I ever got the “shipped notification” from Amazon.com.  I believe that order was somehow processed too early given that Amazon.com knows if they have your product in stock at the DC in your area or not.  On my most recent order, I received my “shipped notification” eight days after ordering my items and received the items two days later.

The New Season

The new season of television officially started this week. Finally! It seems like it has been an eternity since we’ve had quality programming to enjoy. This week, we were treated to the return of most of NBC’s lineup from last year and a good majority of ABC’s and CBS’s lineup. Next week we’ll start seeing the new programs that each of the networks are bringing to the table. Most don’t look very promising, but maybe a few will surprise me.

Anyway, tonight is The Office, ER, Ugly Betty and Survivor. I can’t wait!

If I find a new show that I’m particularly fond of, I’ll be sure to write about it here. Oh, and if you’re not already doing so, watch Mad Men!

Vancouver 2010 – Tickets

Vancouver 2010 tickets go on sale starting October 3rd to Canadian residents.  As most of you know, I love the Olympics and going to the Winter Games is something I’ve done since Salt Lake 2002.  Anyway, I hate how you have to purchase or commit to purchase tickets so far in advance.  I find that most people that I try to recruit into going to the big event with me have no idea what they’ll be doing in 2010 or if they’ll even be able to afford it now.  That’s fine, I totally understand.  At the same time, we’re talking about something that’s a year and a half away, you can’t save $$?  I digress.

Tickets go on sale soon and Vancouver has posted their Olympic Experience Packages, which are sports packages that the organizing committee puts together to make your trip planning much easier.  I have gone through and chosen packages that meet my requirements and now I have to send them out to the people who are interested.  I think I’m going to allow them to vote on the select few and see which ones come out on top.  I’m also going to have to decide if I want to add some separate sports on top of the sports that are included in the packages.  Some of the packages I like don’t include Curling and there’s no way I’m going to miss out on that!

Anyway, I’m hoping that the whole thing doesn’t end up costing too much $$.  My good friend in Canada is doing me the favor of ordering the ticktes and what not for me since (obviously) I don’t live in Canada.  After these ticket decisions are made, the next big issue will be lodging.  That’s where the total price of the event will really begin to take shape! Here’s the tentative plan for that:

  • Fly to Seattle
  • Drive to Vancouver
  • Stay outside the city and drive

So much planning to do!

Stupid iTunes Revisited

I have fixed my iTunes problem!  It turns out that one of my Matt Nathanson albums was corrupt.  I deleted, readded, and everything was fine.  Syncing problem solved!
