Arizona Propositions – My Votes

Below are the Arizona Propositions on the ballot and how I will be voting.  Maybe my opinions on these questions will help you make your decision as you go to the polls on November 4th.  Whatever you do, just make sure you are educated on these questions before you vote.

100 – No

This measure would protect mostly those who are in the business of flipping houses and the large home building corporations.  They want you to think it’s about protecting your investment, but really, it’s keeping them from having to pay their dues when the government decides it’s time to collect.

101 – No

This proposition bars any sort of universal health-care system in AZ.  We already have one for the poor, now where would they get their coverage if this passes?  Also, it would keep companies from having to meet state mandated minimum coverage requirements if they ever came about.  This is something that is going to be added to the constitution which would make it extremely difficult to reverse if we change our minds later.

102 – No

Obvious.  Arizona already has a law prohibiting same-sex marriage and it has been held up in court.  This is unnecessary and just writes hate and discrimination into the state constitution.

105 – No

Majority rules?!  What?!  They’re using the vary system they want to abolish.  This makes no sense.  Nothing will ever pass.  Since when is not voting a vote of “no” on a question?  This is everything but democracy.  A majority of all eligible voters in Arizona would have to vote in favor of a measure for it to pass.  In most election cycles, we barely get 65% turnout, that means that almost 80% of the voters going to the polls would have to vote in favor of a question for it to pass.  Unlikely.

200 – No

Payday loan reform proposed by the Payday loan business.  This is no go.  Give the power back to the state and the people to regulate this business.

201 – No

At first glance, you may think this will protect new home buyers from unscrupulous developers.  It does do that… but it also will hold all home owners responsible for 10 years on any new items installed/built on their homes after they sell it to someone else.  That’s right, you could be sued for problems in a renovated bathroom you did 1 year before you sold the house.  This makes no sense.  AZ has good laws on the books to protect new home buyers.

202 – No

Umm, the wording of this proposition tells you what it will do!  It will undo the employment laws we voted on four years ago and make it virutally impossible to get them back.  There are some nice broadening of the laws in this proposition but it comes with a hefty price.  Prop 202 would provide MORE protection to employers who violate state employer-sanctions law.  HUH?  NO way!

300 – Yes

They haven’t had a pay raise in over 10 years.  Some say this is a part time job, and it kind of is, but most legislators spend 60+ hours on the job when in session.  What sort of part time job is that?  Besides, they’re not really asking for much when you think of the after tax take home pay.

Spot on. No on 200 – we can’t let the out-of-state payday lenders try and rewrite our laws just so they can make more money (and take more money away from hardworking AZ families)!
