Where I grew up!

Well, Google Maps has updated their satellite imagery and now you can get up close and personal with Flagstaff, Arizona. I spent a good amount of time yesterday messing around with the new views and I figured I’d give you an aerial view of my house and school from when I lived in Flagstaff. See below!

Now, go look at Flagstaff, AZ on Google Maps yourself!

Naming Rights…

Well, the big news yesterday here in Phoenix was the fact that the Morton family wants to be in on the naming rights of the new Cardinals Stadium. The Morton family, responsible for the creation of the Hard Rock Cafe, Morton’s Steak House and the Pink Taco restaurants has put forth a suggestion of what they would like to name the stadium if they win those naming rights. See the image below for one of their suggestions:

Update:

Some people are now saying that the Morton’s offer of $30 million over 10 years is too cheap for the naming rights to an NFL stadium. Let’s take a look at the numbers for the other stadiums/arenas in the Phoenix Metro Area…

Chase Field: $66 million over 30 years… that’s $2.2 million per year.

US Airways Center: $26 million over 30 years… that’s $866,666.67 per year.

Restaurants

So, what I was doing while at work today was researching restaurants in the Phoenix area. I was looking specifically for places that have food for under $20 as I am dirt poor but, I still want to go out every so often. I also wanted to shy away from the chains and explore what Phoenix has to offer. I mean, we’re a city of almost 3 million, there’s bound to be good eats somewhere!

I found some very interesting places that I’ll have to check out with friends in the near future. Here’s a small list:

- Cibo – Italian pizza joint in a historic 1920s home.
- Albuquerque Tortilla Co. – based in Albuquerque, NM, they offer the best in New Mexican cuisine (even in take home and reheat containers… Score!).
- Lo-Lo’s Chicken & Waffles – no explination needed.
- Coronado CafĂ© – good old fashioned home cooking.
- Fry Bread House – Indian Native American fry bread done in many different ways, not just dessert.
- Mrs. Whites Golden Rule Cafe – Soul Food!!

Once I visit these places, I’ll give my own reviews for you all here.

Voting and other things…

So, I got my new voter registration card today. They’ve done us all a favor (since now you have to provide your card as well as ID when going to vote) by making the cards out of this laminated paper type material. These will definitely last longer than the older paper versions. It says here that I registered to vote on 8/10/1999. I wonder why I waited so long after my 18th Birthday to register?

On a different subject. I get Proctor & Gamble coupons in the mail every once in a while. What’s interesting to note about them is that they are in both English and Spanish. Now, that’s not really something that is strange to see here in AZ but what I find strange about them is that the Spanish is more prevalent than the English. Seriously, on some of the coupons it takes me quite some time to actually figure out what the coupon is saying because the English is so small. Oh well. I wonder if people in other parts of the city get this version or if in the more Non-Hispanic areas they get all English versions? Hmmm…

Concert!!

OMFG!

I went to the Kenny Chesney concert last night. Opening acts were Carrie Underwood and Dierks Bentley.

OMFG!!

The concert was awesome. The opening acts were awesome. Seriously, one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to. Kenny really knows how to put on a show! There was even a surprise visit by Uncle Kracker.

Dierks Bentley is an Arizona native so it was sort of a homecoming event for him. He definitely brought down the house. This was just an opening act! I knew I was in for something awesome! It’s hard to describe but it was so much fun! We had awesome seats, no where near the stage but in the front row of the second level which assured us of a clear view of all the action. The concert started at 7.30 and didn’t get over until almost 11.30. Totally worth the money spent and it’s sort of sad that it’s over now! hahaha!!

Anyway, if you haven’t heard any songs by these artists, please find some to listen to. If you need some, feel free to ask beause I have a ton.

Fire!

AZ is burning up! It may actaully keep me from going up to Flagstaff for this holiday weekend! OH NO!!

Here are some pictures to give you an idea of how bad it is… this has been going on for the past 3 weeks.

Big Suguaro

Just a quick update here.

In AZ we have the largest cactus in the world. It’s a Suguaro cactus and it’s 46ft tall (that’s just over 14 meters for you metric people). It’s huge! Anyway, below is a picture of it. Sadly, it was burned in a wildfire last week and it may die. It’s survived being on this earth for over 200 years, maybe it can pull through one more time!

It’s Hot!

Just wanted to post what the Mozilla Firefox “Forecast Fox” extension shows for the next two days here in Phoenix. Take a look at the graphic below!

hahaha! Look at that thermometer!

Hot Hot Hot

Just wanted to inform everyone that we are burning over here in the desert. Let me see, the past week the temps have been at 110 and higher (for you Canadians and those of you who prefer the metric system, that means the temp was hovering around the 45/46 mark).

Just another note, I have finished decorating my cube at work with many Olympic things. If you didn’t know already, i’m just as obsessed with the Olympics as I am with TV. Anyway, all this stuff I put up in my cube allows people the chance to start up a conversation with me, so that’s always nice, especially since I’m still new.

Ok, it’s a lazy Friday afternoon here at work, hence why I’m posting while I’m still at work. I plan on leaving soon but I had to post an update because I wasn’t sure if I’d remember later this evening. More pictures of my house coming soon on my house website. I hope to get there this weekend (and maybe walk into my actual structure, oooo, danger!).

42 C!

Yikes! Damn it was hot today! Just wait till tomorrow… supposidly it’ll be hotter! oh well.. i should be used to it… (i don’t think you ever get used to the heat).

Just wanted to post a quick note to mention that I have found the IM Live at Yahoo!…. not good… but it’s very entertaining… check it out if you have time…

Time to go… stuff is waiting to be done!!

OH! Project went into production today… we’ll see what the damage is in the morning! Yikes!!
