Blog Design Refresh

I decided that it was time to update my blog design for the new year.  I’ve had the Sedona design for the past year and I wanted to try something different.  I hope you like the new color choices and the new banner* image.  Thoughts?

*The banner is coutesy of Brian over at Cheap Blue Guitar and I can’t thank him enough for taking time out of his busy schedule to create one for me!  I love it!

It’s Half Empty

ira My Rollover IRA from my previous job that is.  Look at that number!!  Yikes!

In other news, I’m going to try to get back into the swing of things here.   I’ve noticed that my posting has greatly tapered off.  Be on the look out for more posts in the future!

What Some Would Call Lies Saved!

Last night I spent a few hours researching how to recover Mike’s previous posts over at What Some Would Call Lies. After tedious searching and getting no where, I decided that I should try and create a clean backup of the restored database he had. While I was cleaning up the database, I noticed that there was a second entry in the users table. Clearly this was not Mike and it appears that his blog may have been hacked and that is what caused all of his issues. After a few failed attempts at getting the data imported into a working WordPress installation, I finally got it to work! I created a WordPress export of the posts and uploaded them into his blog. Everything moved over successfully and Mike now has his full history of almost 2 years of blogging back! I feel so accomplished!

Twitter and My Blog

I’ve just installed a new plugin that will post to my Twitter account when I update my blog.  This should be helpful for those people who follow me on Twitter but don’t use Google Reader or some other RSS reader to follow my blog.

It’s a new year and I’m trying to be more proactive in my posting here.  So far, I think it’s going well.

A Year on This Blog

It’s been just over a year since I started blogging on a regular basis on this site.  It’s gone by very quickly!  I looked over my posts from the past year and it looks like I made just over 175 for the year.  Not bad.  Maybe I can do better in 2009 (not off to the greatest start!), but I want to make sure that my posts have some sort of substance to them.

Anyway, thank you for reading and I hope you’ll stick with me through 2009 and beyond.

Wordle – Week Ending 11/28

Here’s the Wrodle world cloud for this week of my blog’s RSS feed.  Since my RSS feed puts a link for delicious on each entry, the word cloud thinks I use it a lot on my blog.  I may post other weeks to see how the cloud changes.  I haven’t decided yet.

DNC Crisis Averted

Hillary Clinton spoke longer than expected tonight at the DNC on CBS.  That pushed all the shows back 15 minutes the rest of the evening.  I was alerted to this by Mike, but unfortunately, too late to change the recording on my TiVo.  Big Brother suffered on my TiVo this evening!!  Luckily the full episode was available to view on CBS.com by 10.30pm Phoenix time.  Crisis Averted!!

On another note – 500 posts baby!!

Bored?

I’ve been posting a lot of videos.  I hope this isn’t boring any of you.  I will start again with more text based posts soon!

Thanks for sticking with me and continuing to read!

WordPress Crisis Averted

wp I decided to update to the newest version of WordPress.  I followed all the directions.  After updating the database, I was asked to log in again.  Not a problem, that’s something that normally happens.  What happened next almost put me in the hospital!  I typed in my username and password and pressed login.  What happens?  The page refreshes and says “Please Login Again.”  So, I do and get the same message.  I start panicking.  What am I going to do if I’ve locked myself out of my blog forever!  This is terrible!  Luckily, Google was there to save the day.  It turns out, all I needed to do was delete the cookies for my site and all would be fixed.  I did so and viola voila!  Happy days are here again.  If any of you are planning on upgrading in the next few days, keep that in mind if you get a kooky message like I did.
