Well, Beezus is now 12 weeks old. She just went in for her next to land round of shots. She loves everyone so the visit to the vet was not as big of a deal as it could have been. I’m hoping that she continues to love everyone and doesn’t turn into the kind of scare-dee cat that Olive is. We’ll soon see.
Next up is her final shots at 16 weeks, rabies shot and then she’ll be fixed in mid January.
In other puppy news, she hasn’t peed in the house in a week. Crate training seems to be working well. She messes her crate more than I would like but I’m going to try a new schedule. She poops at 1am and sometimes at 3 am. When she doesn’t do it at 3, she usually poops in the create. I’ve got to change that. Also, this past week she only peed in her crate one day and that was Friday. All things considered, she’s doing great on the whole potty training.
Call me crazy but I only want the best for my dogs. I have been feeding them Canidae but I have been reading some troublesome reports on the internet of bad batches of dog food making it into circulation with dire consequences for the dogs that ingested it. So now I’m a bit freaked about the brand. I was thinking that I should switch it up to something new, but researching high quality dog food is not easy!
Do any of you, my readers, have suggestions?
I was thinking of going with Orijin, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lovers Soul or Innova EVO.
The hardest part about having a new puppy is dealing with the frustration that comes with it. I find myself frustrated with the dog when she has an accident in the house. I know it’s not really her fault because she is so young and that the training process is not something that happens over night. You think you’re making headway in the right direction and then accidents happen and you feel dejected and that you’ve made absolutely no progress. Can you see how this would become exceedingly frustrating?
I also can’t recall how long it took for Olive to get the hang of the whole house training thing. It was almost a year ago that we were going through the process with her so my memory isn’t so good. She’s such a good dog now that it’s hard to think back to when she was just learning.
Anyway, I know that it will get better and that it is only a matter of time before Beezus catches on is just as good as Olive is. Fingers crossed she’ll learn faster since she has a role model in Olive and because I’ve gone through the whole process before.
On a positive note, Beezus seems to be getting the hang of “sit” and I think that, with a few more days of training, she’ll be an expert!
Okay, so having a new puppy is a lot of work… a lot! For some odd reason, I forgot how much work it was having Olive when she was 12 weeks old. Beezus came to us as an 8 week old puppy. Let me tell you, a month makes a huge difference!
So, I find myself driving home at lunch every day to take the puppy out for a poop. It’s not so bad but it has become more difficult, especially when Beezus refuses to poop when I take her out. Wednesdays are the hardest for me though because I have a management meeting at 1:30. I have currently recruited my sister to stop by and we’ll see how long that can last. Today, Beezus decided not to poop for my sister and I was dreading the present I would find in her crate when I got home from work this evening. To my relief and surprise, the crate was clean.
Anyway, our late night potty breaks will soon taper off but it’s a bit of a challenge at the moment. The accidents will be fewer and fewer and her training will begin on the basics. Beezus is well on the way to becoming just as good as her big sister Olive. More updates will follow along with some photos (if I can get her to settle long enough to take one).
One important thing to remember – New Puppy = a whole lot of work!
Okay, I’ve been really lax on posting lately. Let’s face it, I’m basically failing at it. Now that there’s a new dog in the mix, it’s going to be even more difficult for me to find time. So how do I solve this? I’m going to start trying to write one item at work every day. I won’t promise that I will since I’ll just be setting myself up for failure.
Anyway, just some quick items.
The new puppy is good. It’s a lot of work and I forgot how much work it was. A new night time schedule is going to be put into place and I’m hoping that it will eliminate any and all accidents that happen in the crate. It’s not fun cleaning up dog mess at 2:30 AM.
The Big Bang is getting worse as the season goes forward and this is making me sad. It seems like they’re trying too hard. I’m not confident that they will be able to bounce back. We’ll see. I still enjoy the small note that Chuch Lorre writes at the very end and I have to pause the TiVo every time to read it.
Glee is good, no great. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy the show but I wouldn’t necessarily die if I missed an episode.
Modern Family is a good time and probably one of the best new shows of the season.
Mad Men continues to deliver on a weekly basis. Unfortunately I’m behind a week but I’m going to start making time for it again.
Oh, and the new season of Little People, Big World has begun and I still love it! I am soooo addicted to that show it’s kind of sad. I almost feel like I know them personally and it’s scary to think that I’ve been watching that show for about 5 years now. Yikes!
Okay, that’s all for now. A house update will be posted later today. It’s gone from good news, to bad news, to good news, to bad news, to exciting news, to WTF news… and that’s where it stands today. More info on it later.
What is 12 of 12?
Here’s my submission for April 2009′s 12 of 12. Enjoy!
BTW, I found it very difficult to take 12 pictures this month. It might have been because I was just having a lazy Sunday vs. a busy Saturday. Who knows.
I was up early to take care of the puppy.
She really wants to play!
Her new bed (which is a hand-me-down from a cat, shhh!).
Tulips that I got at Fresh&Easy!
Olive has a new rope chew toy.
She really loves it!
I had this movie from Netflix for 4 months! I’m their dream customer.
Olive’s new chew toy, it’s a bit too big for her but she doesn’t care.
I’m addicted to this show on BBC America but I was way behind.
Mike returned from his parent’s to cook dinner!
The sign that greets you as you walk to the trash in my community.
Spring is here! The last remaining blooms on the tree out front.
Okay, I realize there were quite a few puppy pictures but I know you all love them! What will next month bring? You’ll just have to wait and see!
Olive has learned how to roll over! YouTube clip below! (My apologies for the bad lighting)
I think I’ve posted the first video before but it can’t hurt to post it again!
This is Olive at 2 months old playing with her pig. Sadly, the pig is no longer with us.
In the video below, Olive is skeptical of her new brush. She’s still not used to it but I guess it’ll just take time.
