Happy 2010!

Okay, so this post is a bit late.  Whatever.

Happy 2010 everyone!  I have a feeling that this is going to be a great year.  Below is a small list of goals that I’m hoping to accomplish this year.

  • Enjoy work more.
  • Be organized and tidy (at home especially).
  • Be more social – hang out with the great friends I already have more often and maybe make some new ones.
  • Have people visit – The new house comes with a guest room.  Hint, hint to those of you living out of state *cough* Derek, David, and Stacey *cough*
  • Be smart with money – it’s really hard not to spend, spend, spend on this new house.

That’s a few of my goals for 2010.  It’s kind of hard to think of them really.  I mean, I don’t want to sound like I’m not happy, a slob, disorganized, or anti-social.  I guess I just want to be better at all of the items I’ve listed above.  2009 seems like it was a stressful year and I want 2010 to be more relaxing.  Let’s hope that will happen.

A Car, a Parking Lot and a Douche-bag

Today I was at Lowes doing some shopping for the house.  I needed a new thermostat, some light bulbs and garage door clickers (which aren’t compatible with my opener!).  When I came out of the store, I noticed that there was something funky about the front of my car.  When I got closer, I realized that someone had backed into or driven into the drivers side bumper of my car.  It totally squished the plastic bumper and bent the fender.  The worst thing about it is that there was no note!  This person just hit my car and left.  WTF?!  Who does that, especially with this amount of damage?  The good news, I guess, is that there is minimal paint damage and the hood is not touched.  Hopefully the financial damage will be minimal as well.  We’ll see.  On another good note, you can’t really tell there is anything wrong with the car upon first glance.

Anyway, I wasn’t really planning on posting before tomorrow’s 12 of 12 but I couldn’t let this go without a post.  See you all tomorrow!

The Big Day – Moving Day!

Okay, so some crazy stuff happened today that sort of threw the entire moving plan on end.  While at work today, I got a phone call from the movers saying that one of their trucks is in the shop.  They wanted to know if I could move my appointment to Tuesday or Thursday.  Since my renters are moving in on Thursday, Tuesday was the only day that worked.  That meant that an entire day of packing was lost.  The movers will be here tomorrow morning at 8am.  To top it all off, I still don’t have keys to the house.  I have to meet my realtor tomorrow morning to get them before the movers arrive at the new address.  Good times.  I also have tons of appointments set for the week and just a crap load of stuff going on.  It has been a very stressful day but I am very optimistic that everything will work out for the best!  Wish me luck!  An update will follow as soon as I have internet at the new house (or maybe a short update from my phone tomorrow).

The Madness Begins

Tomorrow begins the moving madness.  We’ve been packing (more like Mike has been packing) like crazy people and we have most of the house in boxes.  The garage is full!  I can’t believe that all this stuff was in the house in the first place!  Anyway, here’s a small run down of how the next few days are going to go.  A daily “to do” list has been created so we can stay on task.  My renters move in on Thursday!

Monday – I work and get keys to the new house.  Cleaning of the garage and maybe some weed pulling in the back yard will commence.  There will likely be no power in the house so the number of tasks will be limited.

Tuesday – No work – hard core cleaning of the house begins and moving of some miscellaneous items will begin.  This will be a full day of work in and around the house.

Wednesday – No work – The condo will be moved by professionals and internet/TV will be turned on at the new place.  Massive cleaning of the old place needs to happen.  Tasks from Tuesday that were not completed at the new house will need to be completed.

Thursday – I work – Turn over keys to the new tenants.  Mike and I are also attending the Insight.com Bowl in Tempe in the afternoon.  Our NYE plans are somewhat up in the air.  I kind of want to go out/somewhere but Mike wants to stay in.  We’ll find a good compromise.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday – Hopefully the new house will be painted and new appliances will be delivered and installed during this long weekend.  Maybe even new carpet.  Those details have yet to be worked out.  As it stands now, we’ll be in a house with no refrigerator and no laundry appliances until the house is painted.  Fingers crossed it all happens before I get back to work on a regular basis starting on the 4th.

Time Crunch – House

So I’m moving and the date is quickly approaching.  Due to time constraints and other factors, I will be moving out of my house before the new house is even close to being ready.  That means I’ll be living with mom for a few days… hopefully no more than a week.

Here’s the plan.  I move all my stuff into a storage container on 12/26.  It must be completed on that day as the renters are moving in on 12/27.  I have 6, maybe 7 hours to pack the storage container.  It’s going to be fun!  If I close on 12/29, as I expect, the house will need to be painted before I do any sort of moving in.  I’m hoping that I can get it setup so that happens before the new year.  I have to call some people to see if I can get that to happen.  At that point, I will be able to get the appliances delivered and slowly start moving myself into the new place.  The storage container will need to be delivered to the new house and unloaded.  New carpet will need to be put into the bedrooms before any of them can be “setup” or really even used.  The carpet in there now is soooooo gross.

Anyway, I have a hectic holiday coming up.  It should be GOOD times.

My Condo

Four years ago today I closed and moved into my condo.  It doesn’t really seem that long ago but time flies, it seems.  It’s been a good condo and I still love living here. The time comes when you outgrow and need to move on and I’m glad that I’ve found a place that I’ll love just as much, I’m sure.

BTW, today feels like the PNW in Phoenix.  Cloudy, rainy, and cold.  Burr!  Not a typcial December day here in the Valley of the Sun.

New House, New Ideas

So, when the new house is all moved into and settled I have some ideas. The first is having the Thanksgiving dessert annual event. That’ll be good times. I think it’ll really take off.

Another idea I was having was a monthly dinner thing. I don’t want to call it a dinner party. That just sounds too… yeah. Anyway, it would be a good way to get people together, etc. It could even be a pot luck sorta deal. It’s an idea but it probably needs a bit of refining. I’m excited.

New House Photos

I had my house inspected on Saturday.  Glad to report that there isn’t anything major wrong with the house that would keep me from going through with the deal.  Below are some photos I took of the place on Saturday.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed that the loan process goes through quickly so I can get moved in!

This is the neighborhood (the part that is finished at least.  At the end of this street, the city of Phoenix is putting in a park.  How nice.

There you have it.  A small tour around the new place.  Once everything has been moved in and settled, I’ll post some new pictures.  Also, now that there is an actual guest room, visitors are encouraged.  :)
