SNL – Vampire Weekend

On SNL this weekend the musical guest was Vampire Weekend. I’ve heard of them before, thanks to Sirius 21 (Alt Nation) and their playing of obscure bands before main stream radio even knows they exist. Interestingly enough, I had not “purchased” their album after hearing them on Sirius and I had sort of forgotten about them until SNL on Saturday. The songs they sang on the show were not songs that I had heard before. I really like their sound and I now have their full album in my iTunes. Check the two performances out below and let me know what you think.

Song Rating Update

I’ve been trying to get my iTunes library more organized. I’ve been deleting songs, changing tags and assigning ratings. The latter of these things is taking a long, long time. The use of Smart Playlists in iTunes is helping greatly, but the task is a daunting one. The biggest issue that I’m running into is that I’ll forget to rate a song when it comes on my iPod! There’s a reason why I have a playlist setup to only play songs with no ratings.

Today was a prime example of this problem. I was working in excel all day running reports, which is the perfect opportunity to just turn up the tunes and zone everything out. When I left the office today at 6pm, I realized that I had listened to 48 songs in my unrated playlist and assigned a star rating to exactly 3 songs. Wow. I feel accomplished. Oh well. Tomorrow is another day. Let’s hope I can remember to rate my songs. Over the past month or so I have manged to rate just over 1000 songs in my library. Not too bad, but I still have a crap load more to do. Ugh.

Music Extra!!

I normally post songs on Friday but this is a special occasion!

Dolly Parton just released her new album “Backwoods Barbie” and I kind of love it. I know! What’s wrong with me! Oh well, you should check it out. Below is my favorite track from this new album.

A Quote About Music

My friend Jenie said this to me the other day. She had Michael Jackson on the mind because she heard “Billie Jean” on the radio on her way into work.

“If you could hear that song every morning, you’d know it was going to be a good day!”

Well, in that case, take a listen and have a good day.

Lyrics:

Throw it all away
Let’s lose ourselves
Cause there’s no one left for us to blame
It’s a shame we’re all dying
And do you think you deserve your freedom

How could you send us all far away from home
When you know damn well that this is wrong
I would still lay down my life for you

And do you think you deserve your freedom
No I dont think you do

There’s no justice in the world

There’s no justice in the world

And there never was
