One More Day
Nov 3rd
One more day before we go out and vote for the next President of the United States. One more day of robo calls and commercial breaks that show nothing but political ads. Thank god it is almost over!
Early Voting
Oct 29th
Early voting is an option if you live in Arizona. Maricopa County has 10 designated locations where you can cast your ballot before November 4th. The deadline is this Friday (sorry for the late notice). Click here (pdf) for the location list. Early voting can be a good idea if you’re worried about the wait times at your polling place on Nov. 4th. A friend of mine tried to go vote at the Scottsdale location today during her lunch break. The wait was almost 3 hours. Your mileage may very.
AZ Props – Reminder
Oct 26th
I want to remind all of you voters here in Arizona to do your research on the propositions. Over 90% are backed by special interests that are trying to get protection in the AZ Constitution. Read up on each prop and do some hunting for educated opinions on both sides of the issue.
In my opinion, you should vote NO on every proposition on this year’s ballot.
Pushing the Envelope
Oct 21st

This image is from the home page of Calvary Community Church. As you can see from their website, they are pushing the envelope when it comes to maintaining their tax exempt status with the IRS. Unfortunately, nothing will probably come of this, which is sad. Why have rules if they aren’t going to be enforced? It’s also important to note that this church is right next to a major freeway and has a HUGE banner drapped across the front urging passers-by to vote yes on 102. Disgraceful.
Arizona Propositions – My Votes
Oct 7th

Below are the Arizona Propositions on the ballot and how I will be voting. Maybe my opinions on these questions will help you make your decision as you go to the polls on November 4th. Whatever you do, just make sure you are educated on these questions before you vote.
100 – No
This measure would protect mostly those who are in the business of flipping houses and the large home building corporations. They want you to think it’s about protecting your investment, but really, it’s keeping them from having to pay their dues when the government decides it’s time to collect.
101 – No
This proposition bars any sort of universal health-care system in AZ. We already have one for the poor, now where would they get their coverage if this passes? Also, it would keep companies from having to meet state mandated minimum coverage requirements if they ever came about. This is something that is going to be added to the constitution which would make it extremely difficult to reverse if we change our minds later.
102 – No
Obvious. Arizona already has a law prohibiting same-sex marriage and it has been held up in court. This is unnecessary and just writes hate and discrimination into the state constitution.
105 – No
Majority rules?! What?! They’re using the vary system they want to abolish. This makes no sense. Nothing will ever pass. Since when is not voting a vote of “no” on a question? This is everything but democracy. A majority of all eligible voters in Arizona would have to vote in favor of a measure for it to pass. In most election cycles, we barely get 65% turnout, that means that almost 80% of the voters going to the polls would have to vote in favor of a question for it to pass. Unlikely.
200 – No
Payday loan reform proposed by the Payday loan business. This is no go. Give the power back to the state and the people to regulate this business.
201 – No
At first glance, you may think this will protect new home buyers from unscrupulous developers. It does do that… but it also will hold all home owners responsible for 10 years on any new items installed/built on their homes after they sell it to someone else. That’s right, you could be sued for problems in a renovated bathroom you did 1 year before you sold the house. This makes no sense. AZ has good laws on the books to protect new home buyers.
202 – No
Umm, the wording of this proposition tells you what it will do! It will undo the employment laws we voted on four years ago and make it virutally impossible to get them back. There are some nice broadening of the laws in this proposition but it comes with a hefty price. Prop 202 would provide MORE protection to employers who violate state employer-sanctions law. HUH? NO way!
300 – Yes
They haven’t had a pay raise in over 10 years. Some say this is a part time job, and it kind of is, but most legislators spend 60+ hours on the job when in session. What sort of part time job is that? Besides, they’re not really asking for much when you think of the after tax take home pay.
Political Calls
Oct 1st
I received my first round of political calls last night. I picked up on the first one which was asking me to vote for some obscure person for Coporation Commission. It was a recording and it was boring. Not very effective. I received a second call that I ignored because I didn’t recognize the number and I was busy doing some dishes. I’m pissed I didn’t pick up that call! It was a woman calling to ask me to support proposition 102. I would have had a great response to her request for me to support this proposition. Oh well, maybe I’ll get another call since they didn’t actually “talk” to me. Sometimes there are perks to being a registered Republican.
What!?
Sep 26th
Who understands what she is saying?
"But ultimately, what the bailout does is help those who are concerned about the health care reform that is needed to help shore up our economy…"
AZ Legislature Shinanigans
Jul 23rd
Read the full story below by following the link. Here’s a short clipping from the story:
Sen. Ken Cheuvront (D) has asked the Senate Ethics Committee to issue a formal reprimand against Sen. Jack Harper (R). The complaint accused Harper of “conspiring” with other Republican leaders to cut off microphones last month during a Democratic filibuster aimed at killing the anti-gay measure.
The Complete Q&A
Jul 2nd
From “Face the Nation” last weekend. This is the complete question and answer from Bob Schieffer to Gen. Wesley Clark. Of course, every news outlet is cutting this clip down to just the answer. Just another reason why you shouldn’t believe everything you see/hear from the mass media news networks. Do your own research, the information is out there.
