I Hate My PC

I tried to fix my NetFlix WatchNow issues by uninstalling Vista SP1.  Bad idea.  Now I can’t share my media from my PC to my XBox360 and there doesn’t seem to be a solution in sight.  I’m going to try a few more things but then I may just need to do a good old fashioned reformat of the PC.  Ugh.  Updates to follow.

WiiFit

Yesterday my WiiFit arrived via UPS. I am so excited! Mike and I set up our Miis and set our goals last night. I have a month to gain a few pounds (of muscle) to meet my goal. We’ll see if it’s possible. So far, I’ve done a few aerobic exercises and tried out a balance game. Today, I think I’ll try a regular training routine (that you have to make up yourself, unfortunately.) I’ll most likely post an update towards the end of the 30 days and let you all know how it goes.

FTP Issue Update

Success!  It only took GoDaddy 2 weeks but they finally fixed my FTP issue.  Here’s the thing, the way they fixed the problem was to move my site to a new server.  So, why couldn’t they have done that when I first called?  Anyway, I really can’t complain too much.  I have my FTP capabilities back and I am now able to post my Friday’s Songs again.  Keep your eyes open for a special Friday’s Song later today.  The regular installment will begin again this Friday (tomorrow)

New SIM Card

As some of you know, I purchased an iPhone a few months back.  Since day one, I have been having this issue where when I restart the phone, I would get a voice mail notification icon even when I wouldn’t have a voice mail.  This icon would not go away until I checked my voice mail from the phone.  It was getting pretty annoying.  I finally decided to do some research via Google when my phone started not ringing and sending people straight to voice mail.  According to the Internet, I most likely had a bad SIM card.  Before I ran out and bought a new one, I decided to give T-Mobile a call for myself.  Here’s how the conversation went.

Customer Service Rep (CSR): “Thank you for calling T-Mobile, how may I help you?
Me: “I appear to be having some issues with my SIM card.  Calls don’t ring in on my phone and people get sent straight to voice mail.”
CSR: “May I ask what phone you are using?
Me: “I’m on an iPhone”
CSR: “Okay, we’ve been receiving a few calls about this sort of thing with iPhone users.  How old is your SIM card?”
Me: “I got a new one back in late 2004 or early 2005″
CSR: “Woah, you need a new SIM card.  SIM cards have gone from 32KB to 64KB and they have just become better overall.  Should I send one out to you?  It will be $19.99 plus tax.”
Me: “Can I just pick one up at the T-Mobile store?
CSR: “Yes, you can do that. Would you like me to tell you where the closest one is located?”
Me: “No thanks.  I know where one is located.”

So there you have it.  I went to the T-Mobile store near where I had lunch and bought a new SIM.  I had to call T-Mobile to activate it but so far, no issues.  This is how customer service with a cell phone company should be like.  Over the past 5 years that I’ve been a T-Mobile customer, I have maybe had 1 or 2 bad customer service experiences.  Now, if T-Mobile would just get some cool phones.  I guess you can’t have everything in life, right?

FTP Issues

Due to FTP issues at GoDaddy, Friday’s Song will be posted later this weekend.  I have an escalated ticket open that is supposed to be resolved in 24 hours.  Fingers crossed everything works out soon!

The iPhone and Starbucks Save the Day**

Today, Starbucks and my iPhone saved the day. I was at lunch when my friend Erin called me from the airport. It seems that she left her itinerary information for her business trip at the office. She was left with a dead battery in her work notebook and needed some assistance gaining access to her Expedia account.

Lucky for her, I was making a pit stop on my way back to the office at Starbucks. I was sitting using my iPhone on my T-Mobile HotSpot account. Had I been using the EDGE network, I wouldn’t have been able to chat and surf at the same time. A few mins after she called, I has retrieved the information she needed and the day was saved.

**By the way, this is post #400 for this blog. Thanks for reading!

Do You Tweet?

Twitter Logo

Twitter freaks me out… literally.  Why would you want strangers knowing what you are doing?  I get how it’s supposed to keep friends, co-workers, and acquaintances in touch but still… creepy.

That being said, I am a member of Twitter and I do follow some people and read their tweets.  One I find extremely informative is ArizonaCoffee.  Coffee house reviews in real time is kind of nifty.  I also find myself posting tweets of my own, especially since I took the plunge and purchased an iPhone.  There’s a nice piece of software out there that allows for the easiest updating of Twitter ever.  I’m not saying that I’ve turned into a die hard Twitter fan.  As mentioned above, it kind of freaks me out, but I have found myself tweeting more often.  Do you use Twitter?  If so, what is the main reason and, if not, why have you decided to stay away?

iPhone WebClip Icon Creation

The new software version of the iPhone allows for WebClips to be placed on the dashboard (think of them as direct links to web pages). Well, if you don’t have a WebClip icon specified in your root directory, the iPhone will use a small snapshot of the web page. This is no ideal, obviously. Here’s how you create your own WebClip icon to provide to those who may want to directly link to your site from their dashboard.

  1. Find a square graphic or create one.
  2. Open the graphic in your favorite image editing software and resize it to 57 x 57
  3. Safe the graphic with the name apple-touch-icon.png
  4. Upload the graphic to your root directory (just like you would a favicon.ico) and you’re done!

Now anyone that directly links to your site via WebClip on an iPhone or iPod Touch will have a nice icon to recognize it by. Also, the dashboard adds the nice glass/gloss look automatically.

From An iPhone

First, let me say that I have added a plugin that allows for my blog to be more easily viewed on an iPhone or an iPod Touch. It really speeds up the load times over EDGE.

Second, I have added a plugin to allow for the admin dashboard to be more easily read on said devices. It is actually quite remarkable.

That being said, this post is coming directly to you from an iPhone running on T-Mobile’s network. Enjoy!

Smart Car

So, have you seen any of the 2000 smart cars that have been delivered so far driving around town? Here’s how much I would spend on either of the two that I would seriously think about purchasing.

Maybe some day? I just paid off my Mazda3 and I’m enjoying the “no car payment” feel. I’m not looking forward to upgrading anytime soon (can you even consider this an upgrade?). Would any of you seriously consider purchasing one of these small cars? They only get 36 MPG in mixed usage driving. Not stellar.
