Just a quick update on American Idol performances by the boys and girls*. The first theme of this season was the 60s. Kind of a crappy decade to choose if you want the youth of America to appreciate the songs. Oh well, I’m sure there was a reason behind the madness.
The Boys:
After watching the performances on Tuesday, I was not much impressed by any of the contestants. There were some good ones, noteably the songs performed by David Archuleta, Jason Castro and Michael Johns. After Tuesday’s performances, these three seem to be the strongest guys. One of the worst performance of the night was by Danny Noriega, who sang Jailhouse Rock by Elvis Presley. How was that song even on the song list for the contestants to choose from? I guess American Idol considers 1957 to be part of the 60s decade. WTF? All-in-all, the guys did okay. I’m interested to see what we get next week. Bottom 2 – Garret Haley and Chikeze.
The *Girls:
Oops! Stupid TiVo didn’t record American Idol because I had it setup to record a movie (Some Like It Hot) that ran long into the 7pm starting time of AI and Big Brother was recording on the other tuner. Why doesn’t TiVo have some sort of alerting system or message that would show up in the inbox to let you know when a Season Pass show will not be recorded? Oh well, I hear that I didn’t miss much.
Tonight the bottom 2 boys and bottom 2 girls get the boot from America. Let’s hope the least talented of the bunch are the first to leave.
Ok, so I ran across a few of these while perusing YouTube. Ouch!! The second one is the worst!!
I really think this kid is going to go far in AI this season. Even though the real competition doesn’t begin until Tuesday, he’s already one of my favorites. Below are some YouTube clips of his auditions for AI as well as a video of him as a young kid performing a cappella for Season 1 American Idol contestants (recognize Kelly Clarkson?).
What could be better than a show where real movie stars play themselves and, at the same time, don’t worry about looking like fools? Not much. That’s what makes Extras the best show you’re not watching. The show revolves around the two main characters and the different situations they are put in being extras on films and TV shows. If you’re a fan of “The Office,” you’ll most likely enjoy this show. Give it a chance. You can rent the seasons on DVD and catch new episodes on HBO. See the YouTube clip below for a sampling of the show.
Big Brother 9 begins tonight on CBS. The catch phrase for this season is “Soulmates” and it appears that each cast member took a compatibility test prior to being selected for the show. Each member will have a “soulmate” in the house and not know it. This could make for some interesting TV viewing. I can’t wait! Catch Big Brother tonight on CBS. Other episodes follow on Wednesday and Sunday. Youc an pretty much count on reading some of my reactions to this season here.
Word on the street is the WGA strike may be over by the end of the week. This is good news for two reasons.
Reason 1: The Oscars may actually have writers and movie stars, which will make them 10x more interesting to watch.
Reason 2: We could possibly get a full season of LOST. (fingers crossed)
In Big Brother news – Big Brother 9 begins on 2/12. Seriously, I cannot wait. We have no idea on the cast at this time, but the overall theme of this season is going to be “Dirty Little Secrets.” Sounds like a winner to me.
In other Big Brother news – Big Brother 10 is slated for a July start, which means we’ll have to only wait 1 month between BB9 and BB10. CBS, you are going to spoil me!
We are in Day 82 of the WGA Strike – when will it end?!
There are only 6 days left before the LOST premiere!
Fox dominated Wednesday night in the ratings, in fact, they had twice as many viewers as second place NBC. It will be interesting to see Thursday’s numbers.
There were 2 episodes of “Chuck” on NBC last night. Why waste a new episode like that? Shouldn’t they be saving it for that week when they run out of new stuff?
Finally, I saw a preview for “The Riches” on FX when watching “Nip/Tuck” last night. That show rocks and I will keep everyone informed of when it returns. One of the best cable series.
Probably one of the more amusing “mash up” videos I’ve seen on YouTube.
